MOREE Plains Shire Council is calling for nominations of outstanding community members aged 65 and over who have dedicated their lives to strengthening reconciliation across the Moree Plains Shire.
The Elder Honour Roll, delivered through the Moree Plains Shire Council Reconciliation Action Plan in partnership with the Moree Reconciliation Week Committee, will recognise Elders, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, whose leadership, wisdom and commitment have shaped the Moree Plains community.
Mayor Susannah Pearse said celebrating Elders who champion reconciliation is vital to acknowledging the region’s shared history and future.
“Our Elders are the backbone of this community,” Cr Pearse said.
They have guided us, challenged us and inspired us to build stronger relationships across cultures.

“This Honour Roll is about recognising those who have worked tirelessly, often quietly, to bring people together and create a more connected, understanding and respectful Moree Plains.”
Council is seeking nominations for individuals who have contributed to cross cultural understanding through employment or training initiatives, education, community partnerships or local engagement.
“Reconciliation is not a single act, it’s a lifelong commitment,” Cr Pearse said.
“We want to honour those who have shown that commitment through real action, real compassion and real leadership.”
Conditions of submission includes contributed towards building better relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for the benefit of all Australians; created positive changes by coming up with innovative ideas and actions that make a difference; worked in the spirit of reconciliation for Moree Plains; and demonstrated commitment, involvement and contributions to the Moree Plains community.
Nominees must be aged 65 years or older and nominations must be completed in full, and include the full name of the nominee and their achievements.
Nominations can be made at Plains Elder Honour Roll Nomination.
Submissions close 5pm, Friday, May 22.
