A touch of déjà vu, some of the here-and-now, and a fair sprinkling of new blood – the list of candidates for the 2024 Moree Plains Shire local government elections is certainly diverse.
Former councillors Meryl Dillon, Kerry Cassells, Michael Ivanov and Stephen Ritchie seek a return to office after being away from the local landscape for quite some time.
Sitting councillors Susannah Pearse, Mekayla Cochrane, Kelly James, and Brooke Sauer are seeking re-election and newcomers Debbie Williams, Peter Mailler, Wayne Tighe, Dominique Hodgkinson, Karen Munn, Fred McGrady and Liz Taylor complete the field.
Interestingly, there are two former deputy mayors – Stephen Ritchie and Michael Ivanov – in the running, as well as the current deputy mayor, Susannah Pearse.
Mr Ritchie was deputy mayor to Katrina Humphries and Mr Ivanov was second-in-charge to Peter Brooks. Mrs Pearse is the current deputy mayor to Mark Johnson.
In all, 15 candidates are registered to fill nine seats at the Max Centre bunker, with voters going to the polls on September 14.
Moree Online News will extensively cover the local election during the next few weeks, with news and updates on all candidates.
