Expressions of interest called for councillor mentors

Oct 16, 2024

LOCAL Government NSW is calling for expressions of interest from former mayors and councillors, who are not currently elected officials, to provide mentoring to new and existing mayors and councillors in NSW.

Mentors provide confidential advice and guidance on a variety of issues, including governance, local government reform, conflict management, meeting procedures, relationship management, code of conduct, conflict of interest, and more.

Formal training as a mentor is not required.

Mentors are paid an hourly fee, as well as receive access to LG Learning and Development courses and attendance at the LGNSW Annual Conference without fee.

Mentors will be required to enter a formal arrangement with LGNSW, which sets out the expectations and obligations of each party.

More details and a copy of the agreement can be provided on request.

For enquires or to submit an EOI, please contact Chiara Napoli, LGNSW Legal Officer, at [email protected] Applications close on Friday, November 1, 2024.

Meanwhile, with the LGNSW Annual Conference next month, the closing date to submit motions for potential inclusion in the conference Business Paper is fast approaching. In line with the LGNSW Rules, the final date motions can be received is Sunday, October 20, 2024.

Tamworth Regional Council will host the 2024 Annual Conference from Sunday, November 17 to Tuesday, November 19 at Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.

The conference is the main policy-making event for the local government sector where issues are debated, and motions put forward for consideration by delegates.

The conference is also an opportunity for mayors and councillors from right across NSW to learn from and support each other, and consider new ways to deliver for the communities they represent.

Key dates:

Wednesday, October 23: Standard Registration Closes

Sunday, November 17: LGNSW Annual Conference starts

Tuesday, November 19: LGNSW Annual Conference concludes
