Clement’s run set to continue at Moree

Dec 12, 2024

ARMIDALE trainer Jane Clement’s incredible run of winners is set to continue on Saturday, when she saddles three live chances at the Moree Ag Supplies and Steel twilight Christmas races.

The six-race meeting, traditionally Moree Race Club’s biggest social event of the year, has drawn strong acceptances.

Clement has trained 24 winners since the 2024-2025 season launched on August 1, including the Moree and Coonabarabran Cups with unheralded sprinter-miler, Macleay, and a home-track treble on October 5 – an incredible strike-rate for a stable with only around 20 horses in work at any given time.

“We’ve had a really good start to the season,” Clement smiled.

On Saturday, Clement saddles Sippity Sip and Adviser in the 1200m Moree Ag Supplies and Steel BM-50 Handicap and Hefty Price in the 950m Elders Insurance and Boland Petroleum Maiden Handicap.

Sippity Sip, a winner at Armidale in early October, was a last-start fourth behind Eighty Eight Stars over 1250m at Gunnedah.

He’ll carry 55.5kg after apprentice Nick Palmer’s claim is utilised.

“His run at Gunnedah was really good, and the track at Moree will suit him a lot better as well,” Clement said.

“He wasn’t beaten very far and he ran really well – we’re very happy with him.”

Armidale trainer Jane Clement has trained 24 winners this season.

Adviser, with 3kg apprentice Leeshelle Small on board, starts in the same race. The six-year-old was beaten four lengths when sixth in the 1400m Bush Battlers’ Cup at Inverell three weeks ago.

“We’ve changed a few things around with Adviser, so hopefully he’ll go well – he rarely runs a bad race,” Clement said.

Lightly-raced four-year-old Hefty Price, with placings at Walgett, Mungindi and Wean last preparation, resumes after finishing fourth to Holyrood Girl at Inverell in July.

He’ll also be ridden by apprentice Nick Palmer and will carry 53kg after the claim.

“Hefty Price is first-up from a break, and is working really nicely,” Clement said.

“He’s matured and thickened up a bit and grown, and I think he’ll be a better horse this preparation.”

The SKY 2 meeting, with full TAB coverage, is the biggest social event on the local turf calendar.

Chief sponsors include Moree Ag Supplies and Steel, C & H Organics, North West Events, Haddad Transport, Agri-Storage & Logistics, Grainspace, Elders Insurance, Boland Petroleum, McGregor Gourlay Ag Services, Coates Hire and Matilda and Louise.

Full transport arrangements have been organised for race-day.

Patrons driving to the meeting are advised to use Webb Avenue to access parking at Webb Oval next to the racecourse. There will be signage and attendants directing traffic.

Drop-offs and pick-ups are encouraged at the main entrance and a courtesy bus will commence at midday.

The bus will collect patrons from most motels along Frome Street, as well as the Albert Motel, Econolodge Motel, caravan parks and the Royal Hotel and Moree Golf Club.

Patrons needing bus transport can phone Melissa on 0427 542167 or Andrew on 0429 659172 and courtesy buses will run continuously until closing.
