UPDATE: Second person dies after Armidale cycling crash

A second person has died following a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a group of cyclists at Armidale on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Long Swamp Road, Armidale, following reports a car and several cyclists had collided, before the car continued and hit a tree.

One of the cyclists – a man aged in his 60s – died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified.

Three other cyclists – aged 57 and 39, and a teenage boy – were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital and Armidale Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle – a 30-year-old woman – was trapped and released shortly following the arrival of emergency services.

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

On Sunday, the woman died in hospital.

Officers from New England Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

A man has died in hospital following a fire on a property near Gunnedah on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a property on McEvoys Road, Goolh – about 30km west of Gunnedah – following reports a paddock had caught fire.

A man – who was operating machinery on the paddock at the time – was injured and treated at the scene by New paramedics before he was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering burns to his body.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The 39-year-old man died in hospital on Sunday.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire and the man’s death are underway.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner and the incident has been referred to SafeWork NSW.
