Moree senior cricket pads up for 2025

Jan 9, 2025

THE Moree District Cricket Association will hold its 30-over grand-final under lights at Ron Harborne Oval tomorrow night, Friday, January 10.

Moree Thunder and Moree Golf Club will battle out the decider, scheduled to start at 5.15pm.

Club president Grady Sinclair expects the grand-final to be “a little bit fiery” ahead of a return match the following day to launch the 2025 T20 season.

“Friday night’s grand-final ends the club’s 30-over competition for the first half of the season, and our T20 rounds will start the next day,” Sinclair said.

“The draw has been released, and some minor changes might need to be made during the season, but team captains will be notified if this happens. There’s a chance one or two Saturday games might be rescheduled to a Friday night.”

Teams nominated for the 2025 season are Camurra Crows, Moree Golf Club, Maslina Mudcrabs and Moree Thunder.

“Our T20 competition starts with Camurra Crows playing the Maslina Mudcrabs and Moree Thunder up against Moree Golf Club – that should be a fiery match after their grand-final clash on Friday night,” Sinclair said.

“Both teams are in good form but I tend to think the T20 comp this year will be closer than the 30s comp was last year.

“In the other game, Camurra Crows are looking pretty strong on paper, once again. They’ve gained some new recruits but the Maslina Mudcrabs will also recruit some of the Pally Bulls players from the 30-over competition.

“It’s all shaping up to be another cracking comp,” Sinclair said.

Moree District Cricket Association has also signed up major sponsorship for a Friday night T20 draft-style round.

“We are very lucky to have four local sponsors – McGregor Gourlay, Muggleton’s Cranes, Nutrien Ag Solutions and Australian Food and Fibre – come on board and support the Friday night games,” Sinclair said.

“We’ve picked four captains – Tom Vanderstok, Djordjije Cikota, Brady Polkinghorne and Chris Holland – and the boys will go through a selection process on the night, picking players who have nominated themselves in the draft, with the draft held at Moree Golf Club on Thursday, January 16.”

All teams are reminded there will be no games over the Australia Day weekend and the Saturday comp grand-final later in the season will be either Friday, March 28 or Saturday, March 29.

“Our grand-final date depends on ground availability, but we should be able to confirm a date as it gets closer,” Sinclair said.
