THE Lake Inverell Recreational Precinct is set for a major upgrade, thanks to grant funding
from the Federal Government.
Inverell Shire Council applied to the Federal Government’s Growing Regions Program and has been
successfully awarded more than half-a-million dollars towards the project.
Inverell Shire mayor, Kate Dight, said the major upgrade will safeguard the area for future generations.
“Extensive planning and stakeholder consultation has ensured the project aligns with community needs while safeguarding the precinct for future generations,” Cr Dight said.
“These enhancements reflect Council’s commitment to fostering accessibility, sustainability, and community wellbeing.”
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King projects like the Lake Inverell Recreational Precinct were important to rural and regional communities.
“Quality infrastructure in regional areas is invaluable, and this funding will build and upgrade key facilities that can be enjoyed by communities for years to come,” she said.
Council will co-fund the project to the tune of $550,000 to complete the $1.1 million initiative.
The Lake Inverell Enhancement Project aims to improve accessibility, functionality, and visitor
experiences while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

The Lake Inverell Recreational Precinct is set for a major upgrade.
Key initiatives include:
Expanding the current shelter at the Lake Inverell Off-Road Circuit to include a BBQ
area and seating, to support events and social activities;
Constructing a finishing line structure to attract events and boost the visitor economy;
Installing an 800m kangaroo proof fence to enhance safety for off-road circuit users;
Adding solar bollard lights along pathways to improve safety and visual appeal;
Extending the existing concrete footpath at Lake Inverell for all-weather, all-abilities
access, encouraging recreation and exploration of the lake’s natural beauty. The
extension will create a loop that will join to the off-road circuit;
Building three all-access fishing platforms for recreational use and educational
Opportunities; and
Creating an elevated viewing platform and picnic area for families to enjoy serene
lake views and the abundant birdlife.
Council will call for tenders for various components, with commencement of the project
scheduled for July, 2025.
