MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan is encouraging local organisations, schools and community groups to apply for funding to maintain and make any repairs to war memorials across the region.
Grants of up to $10,000 per project are available for as part of the State Government’s Community War Memorials Fund.
The grants program was established to help conserve, repair and protect war memorials across the state.
“Community war memorials remain a timeless reminder of the sacrifices men and women have made in defending Australia throughout our history,” Mr Moylan said.
“On Anzac Day, our communities gather at cenotaphs, halls and monuments to show their respect and pay tribute to our servicemen and women.
“It is important we protect our war memorials so communities can continue to gather and reflect on those who made those sacrifices.
“The funding can be used to obtain specialist heritage advice, as well as restoring, repairing, maintaining, and preserving statues, honour rolls, gates and halls.
“It can also be used for accessibility, relocation of war memorials for safety purposes and security and safety lighting.
“I encourage all communities that believe their local memorials require restoration or repair to apply for this funding opportunity.”

Applications for grants to help conserve, repair and protect war memorials across the state are open.
The Community War Memorials Fund has benefitted numerous projects in the Northern Tablelands since its inception including carrying out conservation work on the Glen Innes Cameron Memorial Uniting Church and consultation for a condition report on the Wandsworth Heritage War Memorial.
