DUE to a pump failure at the water treatment plant in Mungindi, Moree Plains Shire Council advises Mungindi residents that Level 5 water restrictions have been implemented, effective today, Monday January 27.
The level 5 restrictions will be in place until 5pm, Tuesday, January 28.
All Mungindi residents and commercial users are requested to only use water for essential purposes.
Under Level 5 restrictions, the following applies:
- External watering is banned;
- Washing vehicles is banned;
- Washing down paved surfaces is banned;
- Filling swimming pools is banned;
- Showers must kept to less than five minutes; and
- Only internal water use for essential purposes.
The water restrictions will apply until 5pm, Tuesday, January 28, pending the timeframe fix the problem today. Work began on Monday, January 27.
Moree Plains Shire Council acting general manager Darryl Fitzgerald said water in the Mungindi reservoirs needs to be preserved for essential indoor use and emergency fire-fighting purposes.
“A pump failure caused dirty water to enter the clear water tank and therefore no water can be supplied to the reservoirs until this tank has been emptied, cleaned and refilled,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
He also confirmed irrigation by alternate water sources will not be affected by the restrictions.
If residents of Mungindi have any questions about these restrictions, they are encouraged to contact Council’s 24-hour hotline on 0267 573222.
