STALL-HOLDERS are encouraged to register for the Gomeroi Nation Markets 2400 at Jellicoe Park in Moree on Sunday, February 23.
The event, an established cultural market day celebrating the work of Aboriginal small business owners and performers, will be held between 9am and 2pm at the park’s Aboriginal Sculpture Walk.
Interested stall-holders and performers can submit an application HERE.
The Gomeroi Nation Markets celebrates Gomeroi culture with performances, workshops, and a vibrant marketplace.
First held in Moree in October, 2023, the markets offered a stunning array of authentic, handmade treasures, including artworks, clothing, jewellery, homewares and bushfoods.
Kerrie Saunders, from Yinarr-Ma Bush Tucker, said the Gomeroi Nation Markets bring people together from all walks of life.
“I think these markets bring a space where people come together and connect, to tell their stories and show their skills through art, dancing, food, craft and culture,” Kerrie said.
“I’ll bring awareness to our local, native food and how it brings healthy, cultural Identity and sustainability – keeps the land and people healthy – and is every day food people can source themselves,” she said.
Kerrie will offer native food, including guli native lime jam drop biscuits, slices of guli damper with native lime jam, and cups of Euarah tea.
“Euarah is our local bush tea, sourced from the property of Patrick and Ian Johnston, near Bullarah,” Kerrie said.
“Guli is a grain we grind into flour and is also known as native millet, one of our native grass seeds also growing at Patrick and Ian’s property.”
The event is supported by Moree Plains Shire Council, Tourism Moree, NSW Government, Aboriginal Affairs NSW, Miyay Birray, Arts North-West and JustReinvest NSW.
Arts North-West Aboriginal arts officer, Robbie Hartigan, said the February 23 Gomeroi Nation Markets will have Aboriginal markets, dancers, and singers.
“The markets are a way of bringing people together to share their stories and give regional artists a platform to display and sell their work to a larger audience,” Robbie said.
Locals, visitors and tourists can purchase authentic indigenous art, jewellery, homewares and
bushfood, enjoy live cultural performances, and meet the artists and listen to their stories.
