NEARLY 1000 homes and and a number of businesses across Moree went without electricity for several hours on Friday after a B-triple road-train struck a power pole near St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in north Moree.
The truck hit the power pole at about 8.30am as it negotiated a left-hand turn into Boston Street from Gwydir Street.
Essential Energy crews were quickly on the scene, with back-up crews called in from Goondiwindi and Warialda.
It is believed three power poles will need to be replaced, with Essential Energy reporting 968 customers being affected, including businesses and schools.
Power cables came down along Gwydir and Boston Streets and staff from nearby St Philomena’s Catholic School helped direct traffic away from the area.

Essential Energy crews from Moree and across the region worked to restore power after a B-triple struck a power pole near St Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
A funeral at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church went ahead as scheduled.
Roadblocks were quickly installed in Gwydir Street as well as side streets, with Moree Plains Shire Council staff diverting traffic along Edward, Balo and Auburn Streets.
Electricity was slowly restored to some parts of Moree by mid-morning.
However, hundreds of residences and some businesses in the area were still without electricity at midday, with some businesses forced to close until power is restored.
Electricity is not expected to be fully restored until late afternoon.
