SUBMISSIONS are open for the inquiry into the Health Services Amendment (Splitting of the Hunter New England Health District) Bill 2025 and Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan encourages members of the public to have their say.
The proposed Bill aims to dissolve the current Hunter New England Local Health District to establish two new districts – Hunter Local Health District and the New England Northwest Local Health District.
The Bill was referred to the Legislative Assembly Committee on Community Services who will be looking into how the proposal would work, including the benefits and risks.
Mr Moylan said interested stakeholders and the public can now have input into the future of health services across the region.
“I encourage the public to outline their concerns and make a submission to the committee before they close on 12 April,” he said.
“Now is the time for members of the Northern Tablelands community to have their say on the future of healthcare in the region.”

We have seen an increased concentration of resources at John Hunter. Essentially the smaller hospitals such as Moree are starved of resources. We don’t need an expensive new building we need a refurbishment and a major boost to clinical services. This would be best achieved with a smaller less centralised health district where local hospitals play a greater role.
