POLICE have charged two men with numerous drugs and firearms offences in Walgett.
At about 6.30am Tuesday, March 25, police from Central North Police District attached to Strike Force Meningie stopped and searched a vehicle on the Gwydir Highway, Collarenebri.
Police spoke with driver – a 34-year-old man – and allegedly located an unregistered .22 calibre rifle, forty rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and 7.44 grams of cannabis.
The man was arrested and taken to Walgett Police Station where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug – ongoing basis, possess prohibited drug, possess unauthorised firearm, possess unregistered firearm, possess ammunition, breach ADVO, stalk/intimidate and use carriage service – threaten to kill.
At about 9am on Tuesday police from Central North Police District attached to Strike Force Meningie arrested a 35-year-old man at an address on Euroka Street, Walgett.
A search warrant was executed at the property where police allegedly located six resealable plastic bags containing small quantities of a crystalline substance and other items associated with drug supply.
Clothing believed to be associated with an outlaw motorcycle group was also seized.
The man was taken to Walgett Police Station where he was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug – ongoing basis, supply prohibited drug – small quantity, possess prohibited drug, acquire ammunition subject to firearms prohibition order and owner/occupier operate drug premises.
Both men were refused bail and appeared at Lightning Ridge Local Court on Wednesday.

Meanwhile NSW Police have laid 25 charges for traffic-related and other criminal offences, and issued more than 190 traffic infringement notices during a 16-day operation across the north-west and New England regions.
Police on deployment covered more than 14,400km across New England and Oxley Police Districts during Operation Spoiler – a high-visibility road policing operation targeting criminal activity, anti-social behaviour, drink-driving and road-related offences.
The operation was conducted from Monday March 10 to Tuesday, March 25.
For one deployment under the operation, officers attached to Traffic North West – Traffic & Highway Patrol Command targeted the townships of Gunnedah, Inverell, Moree and surrounding areas.
The 15-day operation resulted in 699 random breath tests conducted, with one testing positive; 111 random drug tests conducted with 11 testing positive; and 77 traffic infringement notices including 31 speed offences.
A second deployment under the operation was led by the Traffic Response Group, focusing on major roads between Tamworth, Coonabarabran and Armidale from Thursday March 20 to Tuesday, March 25.
The six-day operation resulted in 344 random breath tests conducted, with two testing positive; 203 random drug tests conducted with 25 testing positive; 127 traffic infringement notices, including 54 speed offences, five seatbelt offences, and five mobile phone offences.
