Mallawa picnic races jump from the barriers June 7

May 29, 2025

MALLAWA Picnic Race Club stages six races with big prize money when round two of bush racing’s Golden Triangle hits the track on Saturday, June 7.

The meeting offers a whopping $50,000 prize money as well as cash bonuses for the leading trainer and jockey.

In recent weeks, the hardworking committee has been preparing for a bumper meeting at Mallawa’s unique horseshoe-shaped track, 70km west of Moree.

The Moree picnics – round one of the Golden Triangle – drew full fields and more than 500 people through the turnstiles on a perfect autumn afternoon.

The Mallawa meeting features the $12,000 Mallawa Cup (1400m) and $10,000 Mallawa Bracelet (1000m).

Supporting races, each worth $7000, include a 1200m maiden plate, 1400m class B handicap, 1000m class 2 handicap and a 1200m class 3 handicap.

Major sponsors include B&W Rural, Kenway and Clark, Air Cair Aviation, Nutrien Ag Solutions, RDO Equipment, Titan Ag Crop Protection, Badengi Engineering, Irritek, Entegra Signature Structures, Australian Food & Fibre, Namoi Cotton, Girard Grader Hire, Wathagar Ginning Company, Boland Petroleum, MHVP Pty Ltd, LiuGong and McGregor Gourlay Agricultural Services.

The 2024 Mallawa Cup field – out among the wheat – prepares to load.

The Mallawa Cup, won last year by Connie Greig’s Inzaghi, is likely to again draw a capacity field, including recent Boolooroo Cup winner Awesome Tycoon from the powerful Jane Clement yard.

Clement is also likely to start Toulon Factor, fourth in last week’s Boolooroo Cup.

Boolooroo Cup winning jockey, Eloise Drews, will again team up with Clement at Mallawa.

“I’m very excited; Jane and Clemo have horses ready for me,” Drews said.

A special race-day bus will leave the Royal Hotel in Moree at 11am and depart the racecourse at around 6pm.

There will also be a barbeque picnic lunch, fully licensed bar, ATM on course and live music with SAX Appeal from 6pm.

Night function tickets for members and guests are available at Pitman Deakin on Balo Street in Moree.

Online race-day ticket options available here: Mallawa 2025 Race-Day Tix.

Nominations for Mallawa picnic races close at 11am on Monday, June 2 with final fields declared at 9am, Thursday, June 5.

Talmoi picnic races round out bush racing’s Golden Triangle on Saturday, June 21.

The six-race card features the 1400m Talmoi Cup, won last year by Hardyo, and the 1000m Talmoi Bracelet. Total Prize money is $38,000.

Meanwhile, Moree Race Club will stage a seven-race TAB meeting on Tuesday, June 3.

The meeting, with $195,000 prize money, features a $30,000 1400m Country Boosted BM-58 Handicap and $30,000 1200m Country Boosted Maiden Handicap.

Supporting races are each worth $27,000.

The club on Wednesday received 124 nominations.
