FOUR boys have been arrested after they allegedly broke into a home, stole a car and were involved in a pursuit in Moree overnight.
Officers attached to New England Police District were called to a home on Adelaide Street, Moree, at about 8pm on Friday, May 30 and were told the premises had been broken into and a utility stolen.
Police established a crime scene and an investigation was initiated under Operation Soteria.
A short time later, police saw the ute being driven along Anne Street.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed a pursuit was initiated.
It continued until officers successfully deployed road spikes on Edward Street, and the car stopped on Florence Street.
Four boys allegedly travelling in the ute were arrested and taken to Moree Police Station.
The alleged driver – a 14-year-old boy – was charged with police pursuit, not stop, drive recklessly, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner, negligent driving, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, driver not wear seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened, and drive with one passenger seatbelt-restraint not properly fastened.
A second 14-year-old boy was charged with enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
Two other boys – aged 11 and 12 – were both dealt with under the Young Offenders’ Act.
The alleged driver was refused bail and appeared via AVL in Parramatta Children’s Court today, where he was bail refused to appear in a children’s court on Monday, June 2.
The second boy was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Thursday, June 19.
Meanwhile, a disqualified driver has been charged after being detected allegedly driving 60kmh above the speed limit near Walcha overnight.
Officers attached to Tamworth Traffic and Highway Patrol detected a sedan being driven east along Oxley Highway towards Walcha, about 6pm on Friday, allegedly at 160kmh in a signposted 100kmh area.
A short time later, the vehicle stopped on Thee Street, Walcha, where police spoke to the driver and sole occupant, a 38-year-old woman.
She was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result to cannabis and methamphetamine.
Further checks revealed her driver’s licence was disqualified until September, 2025.
Police will allege the woman refused to provide a secondary sample; she has now been issued a Field Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) for the offence of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and refuse or fail to provide oral fluid sample.
She is due to appear before Walcha Local Court on Friday, June 20.
She was also issued an infringement notice for exceed speed more than 45kmh.
