POLICE have commenced an investigation after the body of a man was located at a home in Armidale on Monday.
Emergency services were called to a home on Markham Street just after 8am yesterday, where the body of a man was located.
The man, believed to be aged in his 70s, is yet to be formally identified.
The death is being treated as suspicious, and officers attached to New England Police District established a crime scene which is being examined by specialist forensic officers.
A 25-year-old man – who lives at the home – has been taken to hospital for assessment.
Detectives have commenced an investigation, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Kastelic.
Investigations are ongoing.
In an unrelated incident, two people will face court today after another man was allegedly set alight in Coonabarabran overnight.
At about 6pm last night, a 19-year-old man was walking on Cowper Street when he was approached by a man and two women.
Police have been told a member of the group allegedly poured a liquid onto the man before he caught alight.
Passers-by extinguished the fire and the man before he was taken to hospital for treatment.
A short time later, police were called to the same street after reports of a public order incident.
Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District responded with the assistance of detectives.
A crime scene was established, and a 45-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man, and a 17-year-old girl were arrested at a nearby property.
They were all taken to Coonabarabran Police Station where the man was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, and affray.
The older woman was also charged with affray.
They were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 4 today.
The teenage girl was released pending further investigation.
