TWO students from the Moree district will next year help set the tone and spirit at The Armidale School, with Heidi Cannington and Sam Kelly inducted to key leadership roles.

Heidi, from Moree, has been named Tyrrell House captain as well as captain of swimming.

Sam, from Pallamallawa, has been named athletics captain.

Heidi and Sam were presented with their badges at an induction ceremony at TAS on the first day of Term 4.

At the ceremony, TAS principal Ray Pearson said at the heart of good leadership was service.

“Service should never be something required by the school,” Mr Pearson said.

“It should be something you choose, because it reflects who you are and what you stand for.

“Leadership is service, and I congratulate those on stage for choosing to serve,” he said at the ceremony.

“You now have the opportunity to shape the culture of TAS and to leave a legacy through the time and effort you give in what will be your final, and perhaps most memorable, year here.

“The kind of leadership we value here is confident but humble and strong but respectful.

“As John Quincy Adams once said, ‘If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader’,” Mr Pearson said.

Deputy principal Bronwyn File also congratulated next year’s senior prefects Ashlee Morgan and Tom Rowe; deputy senior prefects Bella Henderson and Marshall Kellett; and prefect Jordie Cullen, Luke Schmude, Ella Vidler and Baxter Williams.

“I look forward to working with them closely as they lead in 2026,” Ms File said.

“For all new and returning students, the start of a school term presents an excellent opportunity to be optimistic, set clear goals and aim to achieve one’s best in all pursuits.

“As we enter the final term, I encourage everyone to finish strong and achieve those aspirations set for the year,” she said.
