THE Moree Legal Aid NSW office will host a drop-in event at the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre Conference Room next Tuesday, November 25, with members of the public invited to meet lawyers, legal support staff and allied professionals.
Connecting with Our Community – Meet Your Local Legal Professionals aims to help people learn more about Legal Aid NSW services in Moree, and includes legal advice and court representation. Eligibility tests will apply.
Staff will also assist with phone and in person appointments as well as community legal education.
Solicitor-in-charge, Haney Cho, said since the local office opened in July, 2025, the Legal Aid NSW Moree team has worked hard to establish and provide services to Moree and district communities. These services include criminal, family and civil law matters.
“We love having this chance to share what we do and give people the opportunity to learn about the services we offer,” Ms Cho said.

In recent months, the team has grown.
Ms Cho, along with Aboriginal field officer Lola Craigie, office manager Felicity Curtis and crime solicitor Eddie Stewart, have been joined by senior family lawyer Tonyka Jamieson, senior civil lawyer Jaime Winslow and relief crime solicitor Katie Walker.
“The team has expanded since we opened in July,” Ms Cho said.
“We can assist clients in Moree Plains, Gwydir, Narrabri and Inverell Shires and provide representation in criminal law matters in Court registries including Boggabilla, Mungindi and Moree Local Courts,” she said.
Prior to the opening of the Moree office, Legal Aid NSW provided telephone advice and outreach services on a fly-in, fly-out basis. However, clients can now seek legal help from a permanent, physical location.
They are able to attend or contact the office and be helped by staff to access the support most appropriate to their needs.
“The opening of our Legal Aid NSW office has been well-received by the community,” Ms Cho said. “We’ve provided 336 services across crime, family and civil law matters, mostly in the Moree Plains area but also in Narrabri, Gwydir, Inverell, Gunnedah, Tamworth and Armidale shires.
“We are aware of demand in other areas, and the next chapter of our development involves future service planning and delivery in those areas reflecting community and legal stakeholder demands,” she said.
Ms Cho said staff also occasionally visit centres outside the immediate Moree area.
“Staff do undertake occasional visits in neighbouring areas. We also service Narrabri Children’s Court and the crime Courts in Mungindi and Boggabilla,” she said.
