Walgett: Second teen charged after attempted break-and-enter in state’s north

A second teenager has been charged after an attempted break-and-enter in Walgett last week.

At about 8pm last Monday, a group of four youths allegedly attempted to enter a property on Montkeila Street, Walgett, forcing open the rear screen door.

After allegedly attempting to gain access through a second rear door, the group – allegedly armed with screwdrivers – returned to the front of the home, before fleeing the scene.

A woman in her 70s was inside the home at the time.

However, she was uninjured during the incident.

Following inquiries, at about 9.40pm, Monday officers attached to Central North Police District attended a home on George Sands Way, Walgett, where they arrested a 14-year-old boy.

He remains before a children’s court charged with enter prescribed premises of any person without lawful excuse, enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, and breach of bail.

Following further inquiries, at about 6pm on Friday, a 15-year-old boy attended Walgett Police Station where he was arrested and charged with enter prescribed premises of any person without lawful excuse and enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today, Saturady, November 22.

In an unrelated incident, three teenaged girls and two teenaged boys are charged over a pursuit in the Dubbo region yesterday.

At about 5.45pm on Wednesday, officers attached to Orana-Mid Western Police District were patrolling the Mitchell Highway, Narromine, when they sighted a black SUV allegedly being driven in a dangerous manner.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle. However, when driver allegedly failed to stop as directed and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through the intersection of the Mitchell Highway and Rosedale Road, Dubbo, where road spikes were successfully deployed.

A short time later, the vehicle stopped near Westview Road, Dubbo, where five occupants allegedly ran from the scene.

Four teenagers – two girls aged 15, a 13-year-old girl and a boy aged 13 – were arrested nearby.

At about 6.40pm the same day the fifth occupant – a 16-year-old boy – was arrested on Catharine Drive Dubbo.

They were all taken to Dubbo Police Station where one of the girls – aged 15 – was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

Two girls aged 13 and 15 and two boys aged 13 and 16 were charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The 13-year-old boy was also charged with custody of knife in public place.

Four of the teenagers were refused bail and appeared at Children’s Court on Thursday.

The youngest girl was granted conditional bail to appear at Children’s Court on Monday, January 12.

Inquiries revealed the vehicle was allegedly stolen from a home in Portland earlier on the same day.
