MOREE Race Club is preparing for its biggest social event of the year, with the Moree Ag Supplies and Steel Twilight Christmas races on Saturday, December 20 showcasing a big weekend in Moree.

The Christmas race meeting has quickly become the club’s signature event, with thousands of people – young and old – expected to converge on Moree racecourse for a day of racing and live entertainment afterwards.

The six-race card is followed by a huge after-party, featuring award-winning Australian country music star Max Jackson.

Gates to Moree’s biggest race-day of the year open at midday, with the first race scheduled to start at 2pm.

Max Jackson will take the stage at about 7pm.

General admission is $40, with all tickets to be purchased online – there will be no ticket sales at the gate.

Group bookings, with a minimum of 15 people, are also available for Inside the Rail.

Out on the track, a six-race card with $96,000 prize money will be decided.

Races include a 950m maiden handicap and 1300m maiden plate, 1600m class 1 and maiden plate, 950m class 2 plate and 1400m BM-50 handicap.

Nominations close Monday, December 15 at 11am.

Meanwhile, the Moree Race Club AGM was held recently, with all committee members and executive members returned for another 12 months.

Rob Mather is back as club president, joined by vice-president Jenny Devney.

Shane Taunton is club treasurer, with the committee including Gus Shelton, Jock Jones, Charlie Bunce, Daniel Heffernan, Lewis Mather, Rowan McGowan and Sam Parkes.

“The club wouldn’t exist without our volunteers who do a fantastic job,” Rob Mather said.

“They give up a lot of their time for the Moree Race Club and will be working extra hard in the coming weeks to make sure our big Christmas meeting is again a huge success.”
