UPDATED: New England Police have arrested a man following the death of another man following an alleged assault at a campground near Armidale this morning.
Following investigations, police arrested a 26-year-old man on Waterfall Way off Pipeclay Street, Ebor, about 11.30am today.
He has been taken to Armidale Police Station.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
EARLIER: New England Police have commenced an investigation after a man died following an assault at a camping ground at Ebor, near Armidale early this morning.
At about 1.40am today, emergency services received a report of an assault at a camping ground off Point Lookout Road, Ebor about 80km east of Armidale.
Police were told two men had a verbal altercation before one of the men seriously assaulted the other.
The injured man – aged 33 – was then driven to Thora about 25km north-west of Bellingen, where NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to treat him.
However, he died at the scene.
Officers attached to New England Police District have attended the campground; however, have not been able to locate the other man.
A crime scene has been established and New England detectives – with assistance from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – have commenced an investigation into the incident.
