It’s Showtime!

Get snapping! Images wanted for 2026 Moree Show photography competition

Mar 29, 2026

WITH the 2026 Moree Show fast approaching, shutterbugs are urged to enter their favourite images for the photography competition.

The competition, proudly sponsored by McGregor Gourlay Moree, is a highlight of the show each year and regularly attracts a strong field of entries from photographers of all ages and skill levels.

Organisers encourage anyone with a passion for photography to submit images, together with entry forms and fees, at Harvey Norman, Moree before 5pm, next Thursday, April 2.

There are more than 35 categories, ensuring something for everyone – from kindergarten-aged entrants through to experienced, older photographers.

The competition includes an open section for all ages, as well as several junior divisions designed to encourage young photographers to showcase their creativity.

Junior sections include secondary school students in Years 7 to 12, primary students in Years 3 to 6, and infants in Years 1 and 2.

Even the youngest members of the community can take part, with a dedicated kindergarten and pre-school category giving children the chance to have their work displayed at the show.

For those entering the open section, photographs must measure 15 centimetres by 20 centimetres – commonly known as 6×8 prints – and must be mounted on black cardboard with a 2.5 centimetre border.

Organisers recommend mounting images using glue or a glue stick that will not cause the photograph to buckle.

Double-sided sticky tape is also considered a reliable option for securing prints neatly to the backing board.

Exhibitor’s name, address, phone number and exhibiting class must be written clearly on the back of the photo mounting. Junior exhibitors must also state their age.

A wide variety of subject categories ensures photographers can submit images that reflect creativity and surroundings.

Among the themes featured this year are Architecture and the Built Environment, Summer in Moree, Big and Little, Fruit, Weather, In the Garden, Action, Way of Life, Upside Down, Mood, Creative Imaging, Row of Things, People – either individuals or groups – and monochrome, or black and white, photography.

Nature lovers are also well catered for, with categories including Animals, Birds, Insects and Pets, as well as Flora and Fauna.

The full list of categories and competition requirements can be found HERE.

An open category allowing entries on any subject and in any size also provides photographers with the opportunity to showcase their best work without restriction.

The junior sections are equally varied, encouraging young photographers to explore different styles and subjects.

Categories include People, Fauna and Flora, and Action and Landscape, which covers seascapes as well as sunrises and sunsets.

Special themes have also been introduced for younger entrants, including My Favourite Shot for children in Years 1 and 2, as well as the kindergarten and pre-school section.

Entry into the competition is affordable, costing just $1 per photograph, making it an accessible event for individuals and families alike.

Cash prizes will be awarded across all categories and sections, with the overall Champion Exhibit receiving $200 and a ribbon.

With a limited time remaining before entries close, photographers are urged to select their best images and take part in one of the Moree Show’s most creative and well-supported competitions.
