Apr 17, 2026

MUCH-LOVED Narrabri resident Myra Smith will celebrate her 100th birthday today, Friday, April 17, surrounded by family, friends and her community at Whiddon Robert Young.

Born in 1926, Myra has lived a life grounded in kindness, resilience, and connection.

From working as a dental assistant in her early years to dedicating three decades volunteering with Meals on Wheels and St Vincent de Paul, Myra has spent much of her life giving back to others.

Now a resident at Whiddon in Narrabri, Myra is known for her warm and welcoming nature.

She enjoys socialising daily, reconnecting with familiar faces, and making new residents feel at home at Whiddon.

When asked the secret to a long and happy life, Myra smiled.

“Life is not always easy, but you’ve got to make the best of it, make yourself happy – and a bit of luck helps, too,” she said.

In 2021, at age 95, Myra was part of the inaugural Whiddon Cooking Club competition which won first prize from entries across New South Wales and Queensland.

A proud rugby league fan, Myra still enjoys keeping up with the game and tipping, and remains socially active, getting around with her walker and embracing each day with positivity.

She will celebrate her milestone birthday with her two children, Denis and Sue – travelling home for the occasion – along with her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Myra also shares a special bond with her daughter-in-law Janice, who visits regularly.

“Enjoy your children while they are young,” Myra smiled.
