AS Anzac Day draws closer, members of Moree RSL Sub-Branch are busy raising money to help support veterans and their families.

Sub-branch members John Tramby and Murray Shaw were last week at Brooker Trading Co selling raffle tickets and Anzac merchandise, and this week will be in Balo Square Shopping Centre.

Raffle tickets are $2 each; three for $5; or seven for $10, with prizes including a Kelso wheelbarrow and firewood, locally handmade crocheted rugs and quilted cushions, Master Creations Anzac figurine featuring 2/1st North Australia Observer Unit – the Nackeroos – and a miniature reversed Arms Digger figurine on a display stand and frame.

Also available to purchase are poppies, pens, badges, Mateship coffee cups, and Shores of Bravery and Fields of Poppies commemorative remembrance throw crocheting or knitting kits.

Moree Services Club will again host the Anzac Day dawn service on Saturday at 6am to remember the more than 100,000 Australians who sacrificed their lives defending Australia.

Anzac Day also recognises the more than 1.5 million service men and women who have served Australia in all conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations.

The day upholds several traditions, including dawn and sunset services, veteran marches and wreath-laying ceremonies.

In Moree, the dawn service is traditionally held at the Memorial Window, and will again take pride of place near the Moree Services Club’s main entrance and driveway.

Breakfast will be provided from 7am in the club’s barbecue area for dawn service participants as well as lunch from midday for veterans, dignitaries and invited guests.

There will be raffles and two-up at Moree Services Club during the day, starting after all Anzac Day events and ceremonies.

At 9.30am, the Anzac parade will marshal in Balo Street, with a salute taking place in front of the Moree RSL Sub-Branch Military.

The parade will then march to Moree War Memorial Hall for the wreath-laying ceremony, with the service scheduled to start at 10am.

The newly refurbished Moree War Memorial Hall will be reopened during Anzac Day proceedings.

At Mungindi, a dawn service will commence at 5.45am at the RSL cenotaph, with a march and service at 11am. Services are also scheduled at Pallamallawa Memorial Hall from 5.30am and Boomi at 11am.

As Anzac Day falls on a Saturday this year, a public holiday will be observed on April 25, with an additional public holiday on Monday, April 27 for New South Wales residents.
