A man has been charged after allegedly threatening two people with a firearm at Inverell earlier this year.

At about 1.10am on January 11, officers attached to New England Police District were called to an address on Flinders Place, Inverell, following reports of a man with a firearm.

Officers arrived and were told a man had threatened two people – a man in his 50s and a woman aged in her 30s – with a pistol before leaving the scene prior to police arrival.

Following the incident, police conducted inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At about 9.30am on April 19, police received reports of a man wearing a balaclava in the vicinity of Macintyre Street, Inverell.

Following a search of the nearby area, officers arrested a 21-year-old man – after he allegedly failed to comply with police direction – before taking him to Inverell Police Station.

During the arrest, police allegedly located and seized a small firearm pistol and two live .22 calibre rounds in the man’s pockets.

The man was charged with possess unauthorised pistol; use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence; enter building/land with firearm or imitation firearm; possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place; possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority; fail or refuse to comply with requirement of police officer; stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic); and face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 on Monday, where he was formally refused bail to face Inverell Local Court on April 23.
