A spokesperson for the Bureau of Meteorology said the rain is being driven by tropical moisture that’s been drawn down over eastern Australia and is now interacting with a number of low pressure troughs.
“This is also very welcomed rainfall for a lot of communities within the agricultural areas that have seen a very dry start to autumn,” the spokesperson said.
“For Thursday, we’ll continue to see an extensive area of shower and thunderstorm activity through eastern Australia with this low pressure system and trough.
“The heaviest areas of rainfall expected Thursday are through northern New South Wales and south-east Queensland.
