Moree Clay Target Club set to host winter trap carnival

Jun 16, 2026

CLAY target shooters from across the region will converge on Moree next month for the Moree Clay Target Club’s annual Winter Trap Carnival, locked in for July 4 and 5.

The two-day event will incorporate the Brian Kneipp, Frank O’Neill and Tom Boydell memorial events and feature a full program of competition shooting, graded events and high gun awards.

Competition begins at 9am on Saturday, July 4, with four events scheduled throughout the day.

The opening event is the 25-target Double Barrel Eye Opener Graded Continental Drive, with nominations set at $25.

Competitors will then contest the 50-target Brian Kneipp Memorial Single Barrel event, followed by the 50-target Nutrien Double Barrel Trophy and the 50-target NSWCTA State Night Single Barrel event. Nominations for each of the 50-target events are $45.

Action resumes at 9am on Sunday, July 5, with two memorial events completing the carnival program.

The first is the 50-target Tom Boydell Memorial Point Score event, followed by the 50-target Frank O’Neill Memorial Trophy Handicap event.

The Frank O’Neill Memorial Trophy is sponsored by Agriware and McManus Engineering. Nominations for both Sunday events are $45.

A total of 275 white flyer targets will be used throughout the carnival.

Competitors entering the full program will pay total nominations of $240, while junior, intermediate and veteran shooters can enter the full program for $220.

A major feature of the weekend will be the Overall High Gun Sash, sponsored by Boland Petroleum. Graded High Gun awards and section sashes will also be presented across Events 1 to 3 and Events 5 and 6.

Organisers note that only one High Gun prize can be won by each competitor, with grade awards taking precedence.

The carnival is supported by a range of local businesses and sponsors, including the Boydell family, Nutrien Ag Solutions Moree, Agriware, Brighann Ginning, Gwydir Spray Shop, GrainCorp and Compressed Air Light and Power.

Practice shooting will be available from 3pm on Friday, July 3, giving competitors an opportunity to familiarise themselves with conditions before the official start of competition.

Powered camping will be available on site for $10 per night, while the Albert Motel has been recommended as accommodation for visiting shooters.

Food and refreshments will also be available throughout the weekend.

Snacks will be sold during the day and breakfast will be available from 7am on both mornings.

The Pally Pub is also supporting the event.

Organisers have advised the Moree Clay Target Club reserves the right to alter any part of the advertised program if required.

The Winter Trap Carnival remains one of the club’s major annual events and is expected to attract a strong field of competitors for a weekend of clay target shooting competition and camaraderie.
