A 17-year-old boy has faced court following a police pursuit in Boggabilla, with police alleging the teenager climbed partially out of the vehicle while driving and filmed police and himself when spikes were deployed. The boy returned positive results for both methylamphetamine and cocaine.
Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting patrols of Carrigan Road near Boggabilla at about 5.45pm last Friday, after receiving reports a white SUV was seen driving dangerously without number plates.
Shortly after, police located the vehicle travelling on Carrigan Road, where it was found with no rear number plates.
When the driver – aged 17 – allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
Spikes were successfully deployed, with police alleging the teenager then climbed partially out of the vehicle while driving and filmed police and himself on several occasions.
The teenager then allegedly climbed out of the vehicle and onto its roof while the vehicle rolled forward, colliding with the rear of a police vehicle.
Police arrested the 17-year-old and subjected him to a roadside drug test which allegedly returned a positive result for methamphetamine.
A secondary drug test allegedly returned a positive result for both methylamphetamine and cocaine.
The teenager was taken to Boggabilla Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, not obey direction of police-authorised person, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
He was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Saturday, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at a children’s court next Monday, June 29.
The teenager was issued infringement notices for the alleged offences of use vehicle number plate not correctly affixed, learner or provisional licence holder use mobile phone, driver not wear seatbelt, and part of body outside window.
