TWO teenagers have faced court after allegedly assaulting a man and stealing in Moree over the weekend.

Arrests were quickly made with the assistance of a remotely piloted drone.

Both boys, aged 13, were given conditional bail.

Officers attached to New England Police District were called to a school at the corner of Boston Street and Carol Avenue, Moree, at about 12pm on June 27, with reports a man had been assaulted.

Police arrived and were told two boys on a motorcycle – both allegedly not wearing helmets – had stolen items from a Toyota SUV parked in a driveway at the school.

The owner of the vehicle – a man in his 30s – confronted the pair.

The two boys – both aged 13 – allegedly swung a log towards the man while making verbal threats, before chasing him across the road.

The teens allegedly hit the man’s arm with the log several times.

The pair allegedly fled the scene on the motorcycle before returning shortly after, and smashing the passenger window of the man’s Toyota SUV with a metal rod.

Following inquiries – and with the assistance of a remotely piloted drone – police arrested two boys at an address on Tawarri Street, Moree, at about 12.40pm the same day

A motorcycle was also seized at the address.

The teens were taken to Moree Police Station where one was charged with use etc offensive weapon in company with intent indictable offence; Assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s); Face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence; Larceny; Destroy or damage property; and motorbike passenger no helmet/fitted/adjusted.

He was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Sunday, June 28, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear before a children’s court the same day.

He was granted strict conditional bail and will next appear before a children’s court on Thursday, July 23.

The second teen was charged with use etc offensive weapon in company with intent indictable offence; Attempted assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s); Face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence; Rider without helmet ride with one passenger without helmet; and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).

He was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Sunday, June 28, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear before a children’s court on Thursday, July 23.
