CHS Broadbent has bought 14.6 hectares in the first land sale at the Moree Special Activation Precinct. The grain supply chain company intends to expand its storage, warehousing and import and export facilities. The proposed development is valued at $12.7 million.
Separately, the New South Wales (NSW) Government has awarded Civil Mining & Construction Pty Limited a $49 million contract for infrastructure. Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty announced both developments on 6 October 2026.
The company’s expansion will handle grain, cotton and fertiliser, including a new facility for packing products into shipping containers. According to the NSW Government, the development is expected to allow more exports by rail to the Port of Newcastle and to increase fertiliser imports through the same corridor.
It says the expansion is expected to create up to 15 full-time construction jobs and an additional 11 ongoing full-time positions. Construction is expected to begin over the next 12 months. CHS Broadbent General Manager Sam Batters said: “CHS Broadbent has purchased additional land adjoining its Moree operations, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to growers, local employment, and investment in regional grain supply chain infrastructure.”
Special Activation Precincts are planned regional hubs, with others at Parkes, Snowy Mountains and Wagga Wagga. Moree Plains Shire Mayor Cr Susannah Pearse said: “The Special Activation Precinct has been a long time in the making, making this a huge milestone for our community and the wider region.”
The infrastructure contract covers roads, water, sewer, stormwater, electricity and telecommunications. The government says the works are expected to support up to 250 jobs and open the first 100 hectares of industrial land with essential services.
The NSW Government worked with Moree Plains Shire Council to revise the planned infrastructure. It says the changes would avoid around $2 million a year in additional ongoing costs for the council.
Civil Mining & Construction will finalise the infrastructure design over coming months, with construction expected to start in March 2027. Under the government’s plans, businesses can buy or lease the first serviced sites off the plan in 2027, before the land is ready.
