Public meetings scheduled to update community on Moree Bail Accommodation facility and local crime data

Apr 22, 2026

THE NSW Government will hold two public meetings in Moree next week to bring the community up-to-date with the Moree Bail Accommodation Program, local crime data and the Moree Action Plan.

Meetings will be held at Social Co House on Wednesday, April 29 at 11.30am and 5pm.

Both meetings are scheduled to run for one-and-a-half hours.

Speakers include NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research executive director Jackie Fitzgerald, director David Anker from the Premier’s Department, Youth Justice NSW staff and members of the consortium for the Moree Bail Accommodation Program.

Both sessions will have the same information and speakers.

Similar meetings were held in Moree in July last year, when residents, service providers, government agency representatives, NSW police and Moree Plains Shire councillors heard updates from Ms Fitzgerald and NSW Governor-General Michael Daley.

The NSW Government says it is working side-by-side with stakeholders to address crime, support young people and improve safety so activities and projects on the ground meet the needs of Moree locals.

To date, the NSW Government has invested $13.4 million for a targeted response in Moree to address youth crime, as well as $2 million to continue place-based responses in Moree announced in November last year.

The funding supports a range of measures, including the Moree Bail Accommodation facility, near Gurley south of Moree.

The bail accommodation facility aims to address youth crime, and provide accommodation and support for young people granted police bail but unable to return home.

The program is designed to offer a safe and supportive environment, help young people meet their bail conditions and connect with essential services while awaiting court appearances.

After-hours activities for young people in Moree include the PCYC U-Nites program, Miyay Birray Street Beat and programs at SHAE Academy.

The Moree Service Review and Action Plan was formulated in August, 2024 to understand gaps in services, see if any services are duplicated, improve service delivery and find ways to make the service system stronger, with an action plan developed.

The NSW Government says more than 20 actions are in progress or ongoing, with other actions taking longer to complete.

“This is because change takes time to get right. We want to make sure the Moree community benefits.”
