MOREE provider Bamara proudly delivers two important programs that continue to change lives across the black-soil plains.

The Bamara Driver Licensing Access Program, managed by driving instructor Jimmy Bryans, and Parent Pathways, overseen by support mentor Kerry Macey, are important services available to clients facing challenges in a forever-changing world.

DLAP is a free program providing support to people in New South Wales who find difficulty obtaining a licence, and is delivered across Moree by experienced driver mentors and instructors.

Jimmy says DLAP changes lives.

“It’s one of the best programs I’ve ever seen, and been part of,” Jimmy said.

This program truly changes lives, especially for people who never imagined they’d get their licence.

“It gives them independence and sets them on the right path, whether that’s getting a job, taking their kids to school, or simply enjoying the freedom of a casual drive,” he said.

Jimmy has helped clients of all ages – from 16-year-olds to 85-year-olds.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing their faces when they’re told they’ve passed at Service NSW,” Jimmy smiled.

“I’ve seen the toughest people shed tears. Some are so overwhelmed with joy they can’t even speak. All they want to do, is hug you and say ‘thank-you’.

“Moments like that mean everything,” he said.

Driving instructor Jimmy Bryans said there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a client’s face when they’re told they’ve passed their driving test at Service NSW.

Driving test preparations include making sure clients are confident and ready for their driver knowledge test and hazard perception tests.

DLAP will help participants obtain their Ls and Ps and can also help with the transfer of an overseas driver’s licence.

The four key areas of support are getting a learner licence, getting on-road driving experience, progressing to a provisional licence or regaining a licence.

In recent years, Jimmy and Kerry have helped more than 300 clients obtain their driver’s license, with new staff recruit Brenda Nash also jumping behind the wheel.

“Right now, Kerry and I have been training our new mentor, Brenda, and she’s absolutely impressed us with how quickly she’s adapted,” Jimmy said.

“She’s already teaching her drivers with confidence and a wealth of knowledge – we truly have the best team here in Moree.”

Parent Pathways is a free and voluntary service that provides personalised and financial support to eligible parents and carers of children aged under six years.

Bamara delivers Parent Pathways across Moree, including the communities of Narrabri and Wee Waa as well as across the New England and north-west at Tamworth, Gunnedah, Inverell, Armidale and Glen Innes.

Support mentor Kerry Macey helps local clients achieve their personal, study or work goals at a pace that works for them.

“Parent Pathways has been a valuable program for the community, helping parents take meaningful steps forward,” she said.

“We’ve assisted with enrolling in study, gaining certificates and licences, building resumes, finding employment and accessing workwear,” she said.

Kerry said financial support is also available for vouchers, licensing costs, mobile phone purchase, computer and IT costs, employment costs, and study and training costs for eligible parents and carers.

“People looking for support with setting or achieving their goals, or if they just want someone to talk to, a support mentor is available,” Kerry said.

“Our door is always open, and children are always welcome,” she smiled.
