TICKETS for Mallawa and Talmoi picnic races are now available online, with much-needed rain this week signalling larger than usual crowds are likely at bush racing’s Golden Triangle.

With round one at Moree done and dusted for another year, the carnival continues west and north of Moree over the next four weeks.

Mallawa Picnic Race Club holds its six-race card on Saturday, June 6 and two weeks later on Saturday, June 20, Talmoi Picnic Race Club rounds out the Golden Triangle, also with six races.

The Mallawa card includes the 1400m Mallawa Cup worth $12,000 and 1000m Mallawa Bracelet worth $10,000, with supporting races each worth $7000.

As well as horse racing action all day at Mallawa, bookmakers will field on local and metropolitan events, with a Mallawa Cup calcutta also conducted on course.

The Mallawa Picnic Race Club committee has another big race-day planned for Saturday, June 6.

There will be live music to keep the party going when the races are run and won, marquee luncheon as well as the famous Moree Lions Club barbecue, with tickets available HERE.

Meanwhile, Moree Race Club yesterday received a mammoth 158 nominations for its seven-race TAB meeting next Tuesday, June 2. The 950m David Marshall Plumbing BM-58 Handicap drew 32 nominations, including Peter Sinclair’s Cat Empire and Brett Robb’s Angie’s Sister and Miss Karis.

Sinclair, who now trains at Murwillumbah, has also nominated locally-owned Commedia in the 950m My Moree Maiden Plate and In Real Time and Zavy’s Sun in the 1200m Big Sky Country Maiden Handicap. The same four horses have also been nominated for Murwillumbah Sunday, with the weather playing a big part as to which way they head.

The Agriware 1200m BM-58 Handicap at Moree has drawn 30 nominations, including City Gold Speed and Climate Control from the Jeremy Gask yard and Moree Boolooroo Cup place-getter Shut Eye, trained at Inverell by Wayne Oakenfull. Oakenfull has also nominated The Paper Boy and Boomtime Now in the 950m My Moree Maiden Plate.

Weights for the meeting will be finalised later today, with acceptances announced Friday morning.
