INVERELL Shire Council has a new councillor, Kelvin Brown, following a vote countback conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission.
The election was triggered to fill a vacant position on Council, following the resignation of
former councillor Paul Harmon.
There were two unsuccessful candidates from last year’s local government elections – Mr Brown and Graem Murray – and both nominated to participate in the countback process.
Following the formal declaration by the NSW Electoral Commission, Mr Brown was named as the new councillor for Inverell Shire Council.
Cr Brown completed his affirmation or swearing of the oath ceremony on April 23, 2025.
Inverell Shire Council mayor, Kate Dight, congratulated Mr Brown.
“On behalf of Inverell Shire Council, I would like to extend congratulations to Mr Brown and we look forward to his contributions to Council and the community,” Cr Dight said.

At Wednesday’s ordinary council meeting, councillors had the pleasure of witnessing Cr Brown complete his swearing of the oath.
Afterwards, he was invited to take his chair in council chambers and officially take up duties as an elected representative of the Inverell Shire community.
The council reshuffle came about after the shock resignation of Paul Harmon in February.
Mr Harmon served as Inverell mayor for 12 years but was replaced by Cr Dight at the first meeting of the new council last year.
