Moree Boars will carry plenty of momentum into the Group 4 finals after both First Grade and Reserve Grade wrapped up the regular season as minor premiers.

First Grade put an exclamation mark on its campaign with a 60-0 win over Boggabri at Jubilee Oval on Sunday, while Reserve Grade was almost as emphatic, running out 58-10 winners.

For First Grade, the result completed an outstanding regular season. Moree finished with 13 wins from 14 matches, scoring 648 points and conceding 212.

Adrian Smith, Alex Barker and Dereik Newman each scored two tries against Boggabri. Jock Brazel, Jack Durheim, Brent McDonald, Jake Tighe and Jamie Sampson also crossed, while Smith kicked eight conversions.

Reserve Grade heads into the finals with 10 wins, two draws and just one loss from 13 matches. The Boars scored 438 points during the regular season and conceded 186.

Both teams have earned top spot and, with it, the chance to play their major semi-finals on home soil.

Now it’s finals time

Boughton Oval will host a big afternoon of Group 4 finals football on Saturday, August 22, with both Moree teams playing for direct passage to their respective grand finals.

Reserve Grade takes on Dungowan at 1.15pm before First Grade meets Gunnedah at 2.45pm.

The equation for both Moree sides is straightforward: win on Saturday and they are through to the grand final.

The Group 4 program at Boughton Oval starts earlier in the day, with Gunnedah and Kootingal meeting in Women’s Tackle at 10.45am before Dungowan plays Werris Creek in the Under 18s at noon.

Moree’s Women’s Tackle side also has its season on the line after finishing the regular season in third place.

The Boars women travel to Dungowan Recreation Ground on Sunday, August 23, to face Dungowan at 10.45am in the minor semi-final, where a win will keep their finals campaign alive.

It gives Moree three senior teams in finals action across the weekend, with First Grade and Reserve Grade rewarded for their seasons with major semi-finals at Boughton Oval.

Finals football brings extra pressure, but the Boars have done the work to give themselves home-ground advantage on Saturday.

A strong Moree crowd at Boughton Oval would add to that advantage as Reserve Grade and First Grade chase places in their respective grand finals.

The Women’s Tackle side then carries the Boars colours to Dungowan on Sunday with its season on the line.
