Once a month, Jellicoe Park comes alive with market stalls, food, coffee, local produce, crafts and people making a morning of it.
Now Moree Plains Shire Council is looking for someone to take the helm.
Expressions of interest have opened for a new coordinator to run the Jellicoe Park Markets, with the opportunity open to individuals, organisations, experienced operators and community groups.
And there is plenty of room to make something of it.
The new coordinator can bring in fresh stallholders, lift the markets’ profile and help shape what they become over the coming year.
There is already a strong foundation to work with.
The markets have a regular home at Jellicoe Park, an established place on the calendar and a mix of food, produce, crafts and other stalls that draw people into the park each month.
They also already branch out beyond the standard monthly format, with themed events tied to seasons and occasions such as Christmas and Father’s Day.
The opportunity now is to build on what is already there.
That could mean attracting new traders, giving regular stallholders more reasons to return, finding new ways to bring people through the gates and adding fresh ideas to the special events already on the calendar.
There is also plenty happening behind the scenes to keep the markets moving, from organising stallholders and sites to promotion, finances, safety and the practical work of each market day.
But at its heart, the role is about more than administration.
It is about taking an established Moree event and helping decide what the next version of it could look like.
The Jellicoe Park Markets are held on the first Sunday of each month, except January, with two markets held in December.
Expressions of interest close at 5pm on Wednesday, September 23.
