A free community vaccination clinic for adults and adolescents will be held at Moree PCYC on Friday, September 18, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Japanese encephalitis, pneumococcal and other missing vaccinations will be available. Appointments are not required and walk-ins are welcome.
Moree Plains is one of the NSW local government areas listed as high risk for Japanese encephalitis. People who live or work in the Moree Plains local government area can receive the JEV vaccine for free.
Japanese encephalitis is a rare but serious illness spread to humans by infected mosquitoes. NSW Health says the vaccine is safe and effective for people aged two months and older, although Friday’s Moree clinic is for adults and adolescents.
Hunter New England Local Health District authorised nurse immunisers and authorised Aboriginal Health Practitioners will provide vaccinations at the clinic. People can speak with staff about their vaccination needs and any vaccines they may have missed.
The clinic will also offer the new pneumococcal vaccine, Capvaxive, to eligible people. The vaccine was introduced to the vaccination schedule from July 1, 2026, and is free as a single dose for people aged 65 and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 25 and over, and people aged 18 and over with an eligible medical condition.
NSW Health says people should also protect themselves from mosquito bites. This includes wearing loose, long-sleeved, light-coloured clothing and using mosquito repellent containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
Bookings can be made online to help staff plan for attendance, but they are not required. Only one person needs to complete the booking survey for their household.
People attending should bring their Medicare card if they have one. Those who are not eligible for Medicare can still attend.
A free Lions Club barbecue lunch will be available from 11am to 2pm.
