Moree Lions will tee off its annual Charity Golf Day this Sunday, September 27, with golfers and social players invited to take part in a major club fundraiser supporting Ronald McDonald House and local causes.
The four-person Ambrose event will be held at Moree Golf Club, with tee-off times at 7.30am and noon. Entry is $40 per player, with a barbecue from 7am included in the entry fee.
More than $18,000 in cash sponsorship and donated goods had already been secured in the lead-up to the event, with Lions members told at their recent meeting about $9400 had been donated in cash and more than $8700 in prizes and other gifts.
The day will also feature nearest-the-pin competitions on all par-three holes, meat raffles and a multi-prize raffle.
Moree Golf Club has also come on board to support the fundraiser, with Lions members told the club would donate some of the green fees from the day.
This year’s event will support Ronald McDonald House, alongside various local causes supported by Moree Lions.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern NSW community engagement officer Kelly Saunders recently told Moree Lions that 51 Moree families stayed at Ronald McDonald House Tamworth last year for a combined 350 nights, while another 18 Moree families spent 242 nights at the Newcastle house.
The accommodation allows families to remain close to children receiving medical care, with access to private rooms, shared kitchens, laundries, meals and other support.
“If somebody is flown out of Moree at 2 o’clock in the morning and they need a bed, they can ring and someone’s going to answer the door and welcome them in,” Ms Saunders said.
