Moree motorists will need to start watching the parking signs more closely from Monday, when Council rangers begin actively monitoring compliance.
From Monday, September 28, Moree Plains Shire Council rangers will begin actively monitoring parking compliance across the shire, including in the Moree CBD and school zones.
Monitoring will be particularly focused on Heber and Balo streets, with drivers being reminded to check the signed restrictions applying wherever they park.
The rules themselves are not unfamiliar. Timed parking has long applied in parts of the Moree CBD, along with restrictions covering accessible parking and other designated parking areas. What changes from Monday is Council’s announced active monitoring of compliance.
Motorists who exceed signed time limits or misuse accessible parking may face a fine. Council says penalties can range from $140 to more than $704 depending on the offence.
For drivers, that means checking the signs applying to the particular space rather than assuming parking conditions are the same throughout town.
One CBD sign photographed by Moree Online News, for example, shows a two-hour parking limit from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 12.30pm Saturday.
School zones are also included in the compliance focus, meaning the monitoring extends beyond timed parking in the CBD.
From Monday, motorists can expect Council rangers to be actively monitoring the existing parking restrictions.
