Moree Tobacconist has been ordered to close for 90 days after NSW Health raised concerns about suspected illicit tobacco sales and trading without a valid tobacco licence.
The closure took effect on Wednesday, October 28, and will remain in place until January 25, 2027. The business is located inside Balo Square Shopping Centre on Balo Street, Moree, where official closure notices have been displayed across its shopfront.
According to the order, NSW Health reasonably suspects that illicit tobacco has been sold at the premises and that tobacco products or non-tobacco smoking products have been sold without a retail licence in effect.
The order is based on suspected breaches of tobacco laws. It is not a finding of criminal guilt.
Other businesses within Balo Square are not affected by the order and can continue trading.
The closure follows the introduction of stronger NSW laws targeting illegal tobacco and vaping products in November 2025.
According to NSW Health, 514 short-term closure orders had been issued across the state by October 23, 2026.
The closure is due to end on January 25, 2027, although it is not yet known whether the business will reopen.
NSW Health has been asked whether any goods were seized during the latest enforcement action and whether further action is being considered.
The report will be updated when further information becomes available.
