Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre update: re-opening expected next week

Jan 21, 2025

FOLLOWING the closure of the pools at the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre (MAAC) on Tuesday 8 January 2025, Moree Plains Shire Council hopes to see the facility open to the public by next week.

The gym and café remain open during the repair period.

In a community update regarding replacement of failed equipment, council said in a media statement chlorine tanks were delivered last week and the installation completed.

“Four new chlorine pumps and piping have also been purchased. However, due to transport logistics delays, unfortunately the materials that Council anticipated to arrive last week will now be delivered this week. This delay has impacted the timeline for the full reopening of the facility,” the statement said.

“We are now working towards the re-opening of the aquatic side of the MAAC after the Australia Day long weekend.”

Acting general manager, Darryl Fitzgerald, expressed his appreciation of the endeavours by council staff, local contractors and businesses to have the MAAC reopened earlier.

“We acknowledged the community’s understanding as we work diligently with SafeWork NSW to have the centre up and running as soon as possible,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

Meanwhile, a 48-hour water restrictions in Moree will be lifted today, January 21, at 6pm.

Emergency works have now been rectified and completed.

However, due to the process of bleeding the lines a couple of reservoir towers are currently experiencing low water pressure due to low water levels.

This may continue to affect residents for a couple more hours.

Council asks residents to refrain from using water for external purposes until 6pm tonight, Tuesday, January 21, to allow the pressure to build back up.

“We have appreciated your understanding and cooperation during this time,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
