Level 5 water restrictions for Moree back in play

Feb 12, 2025

MOREE Plains Shire Council advises residents Level 5 water restrictions will be implemented this week, effectively from Tuesday February 12 until 5pm Friday, February 14.

The restrictions come after a power outage on Tuesday affected Council’s Yarraman bore field water.

All residents and commercial users are requested to only use water for essential purposes.

Most Moree parks and gardens are irrigated using non-potable water.

Usage to the small number connected to the town water supply will be restricted.

Level 5 Restrictions

External Watering: banned;

Washing of vehicles: banned;

Washing down of paved surfaces: banned;

Swimming pool filling: banned;

Showers to be kept to less than five minutes; and

Only internal water for essential purposes.

Moree Plains Shire Council general manager Natalia Cowley said the water restrictions are short-term and will allow Council to preserve water levels in reservoir towers.

“We understand the inconvenience this causes, and ask residents to comply with this short-term restriction to allow us to preserve our current water levels while we rely on two bores for the entire town water supply,” she said.

Ms Cowley also confirmed irrigation by alternate water sources will not be affected by the restrictions.

If residents of Moree have any questions about the restrictions, they are encouraged to contact Council: (02) 6757 3222.
