May 10, 2025

A woman has been charged with murder over the death of two children in Coonabarabran early last week.

Just after 2pm on Monday, police were called to a home on Emu Lane, Coonabarabran, following reports of a concern for welfare.

On arrival, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District located a woman and the bodies of two boys – brothers aged 6 and 7 – inside the home.

The 66-year-old woman was taken to a hospital for further assessment where she remained under hospital guard.

Police were told the woman and children are known to each other.

A crime scene has been established and officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced an investigation under Strike Force Darnum, assisted by detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

On Friday, May 9, the woman was taken to Orange Police Station after she was released from hospital.

She was charged with two counts of murder.

She was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today, Saturday, May 10.

Police were alerted to the tragedy when conducting a welfare check at the family home when the brothers didn’t attend school.

The bodies were found when police officers forced entry to the house.

One body was located in a bedroom; the other body was found in another room in the house. Investigating detectives believe the brothers were suffocated.
