I have been requesting the NSW Government provide clarity on the future of the LP Dutton Trout Hatchery at Ebor with the facility closed to the public.
The trout hatchery has a long history of tourist and community visits for education and fish feeding but has been closed to the public since late 2024.
This has had a big economic impact on the community of Ebor whose small businesses rely on tourism.
I have written to Minister for Agriculture Tara Moriarty numerous times and put forward a Question On Notice in the March sittings of NSW Parliament for an update on the future of tourism at the hatchery.
I also put forward a Notice Of Motion in Parliament this week requesting the NSW Government re-open the trout hatchery.
So far, the Minister’s office has only confirmed that the commercial and production parts of the hatchery will continue operating, and it has not communicated whether it will reopen for public visits.
I am yet to receive an adequate response.
This is not good enough. The NSW Government needs to outline their future plans for the hatchery.
Moree On A Plate
Food and beverage producers from the New England and North West region came together at Moree Racecourse last Saturday to showcase their produce. The festival was well-attended by food and beverage lovers.
It was a brilliant day and I even got to judge the mixed grill competition which was taken out by the Nutrien Ag team.

Glen Innes tip funding
An environmental corridor at the Glen Innes Waste Facility will soon be restored with $20,000 from the NSW Government put toward the project.
Native trees and plants will be re-introduced to the site which was cleared in the 1960s for landfill. In 2017, access to the site was moved and remediation of the area began in 2021 by removing waste, reshaping and stabilising the slop, and a layer of vegetation-holding soil added.
Glen Innes Severn Council will be able to restore the land with native trees and plants.
All plants will be provided by a nursey which has sourced and propagated the seeds from within the region.
Warialda Show
The Warialda Show was on last weekend and it was fantastic to attend this event.
From the rodeo and campdraft through to the sideshows and produce competitions, there was something for everyone there. Well done to the show committee on putting on another fantastic event.
Parliamentary sittings
This week saw the second week of the May Parliament sittings.
I delivered Community Recognition Statements on the Stars of Armidale, Maverick Noakes, APJ Law marking 150 years, recognition of Dino Vannucci – Your Local Bloke, Moree and District Historical Society Preserving History, Bingara Community Op Shop, Moree cricketers Alf Newman and Darrel Smith, Salam Qaro, and Tileah McGrady.
My Questions On Notice were on teacher vacancies across the Northern Tablelands, planning around the New England REZ, housing shortages, paramedic rosters, licence medical checks, TrainLink discovery passes, and nursing positions.
