BATTLE on the Bank will on Friday bring Inverell’s Campbell Park riverbank to life with a free evening of live music featuring youth performers – including Moree’s Kyla-Belle – and is an event organised by young people, for young people.

Held for the first time this year, the August 20 music-fest – proudly supported by the NSW Government – is the brainchild of the Inverell Youth Think Tank Team.

The group of four young leaders surveyed more than 400 of their peers to find out what events they wanted to see in the community.

The clear winner was live music.

The Think Tank Team – Daniel Bernard, Hollie Purvis, Savannah Maybury and Rohan Cowley – threw their enthusiasm behind the concept and have worked alongside facilitators Ladybug Projects, to secure music acts, co-ordinate travel to the event for Ashford-based youth and also promote the event.

“I am so excited for the Battle on the Bank because it will be another positive outlet for the youth of Inverell and surrounding areas to participate,” Rohan Cowley said.

Moree’s Kyla-Belle will entertain at Inverell’s Battle on the Bank on Friday night.

“It will also allow for local youth talent to be on display and show everyone that country kids can do amazing things.”

Among the line-up of performers for the night is Kyla-Belle – a Moree-based singer-songwriter and Year 11 student.

Kyla-Belle’s recently released debut single Scars is quickly gaining attention for her emotive lyrics and soulful sound.

Headlining the night is Terra Firma, a high-energy band that has performed across New South Wales and built a strong following for their dynamic stage presence and ability to entertain a crowd.

The event will also feature performances from six young Inverell artists aged 12–24, who will be performing hits from the likes of Worry Club to Paul Kelly and Radiohead.

Food trucks will be on-site serving hot drinks and a variety of snacks and dinner options – perfect for a night out.

Project facilitator Christy Galbraith said audience members are encouraged to bring a blanket to stay warm and comfortable under the stars.

“Battle of the Bank is all about young people shaping their own community and creating the kind of spaces they want to be part of,” she said.
