Moree Plains women and girls could be recognised at a state level, with nominations now open for the 2027 NSW Women of the Year Awards.
The awards celebrate women and girls whose leadership, service and achievements improve lives, strengthen communities and inspire future generations.
Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan encouraged residents to nominate women and girls whose contributions deserve wider recognition.
“We have some remarkable women right across the Northern Tablelands who make extraordinary contributions to the lives of people around them without seeking recognition,” Mr Moylan said.
“Whether it is volunteering their time or leading change, these awards provide an opportunity for these girls and women to be formally recognised for the countless hours they put in to making a difference.”
The 2027 awards include six categories: NSW Premier’s Woman of Excellence, NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year, NSW Community Hero, NSW Regional Woman of the Year, NSW Young Woman of the Year and The Ones to Watch.
The categories recognise women and girls making a difference through leadership, community service, regional advocacy, support for Aboriginal communities, youth achievement, courage, kindness and determination. The NSW Regional Woman of the Year category is open to women living in regional NSW, while NSW Young Woman of the Year recognises women aged 16 to 30. The Ones to Watch category recognises girls and young women aged seven to 15.
Mr Moylan said recognising local women and girls also helped inspire others to become involved in their communities.
“By nominating an outstanding woman in one of the six categories, you can help ensure they receive the thanks they deserve and inspire more people to get involved in their local communities,” he said.
“I encourage residents of the Northern Tablelands to put forward those who deserve the recognition.”
Nominations close at 11.59pm on Thursday, August 13, 2026, and recipients will be announced at the NSW Women of the Year Awards ceremony in Sydney on Thursday, March 4, 2027.
Nominations can be made through the NSW Government’s Women NSW awards page.
