Community groups, sporting clubs and schools have until midnight on Sunday, August 2 to apply for up to $25,000 through Moree Plains Shire Council’s 2026 Community Enhancement Fund.

The annual fund has previously supported projects ranging from disability technology and food assistance to sporting facilities and aviation training for local cadets.

In 2024, Gwydir Industries received $25,000 to construct an accessible information technology room for people with disability. The LifeHouse Care Pantry Program received a further $8,326 to support residents through food vouchers, hampers, hospital packs and assistance with household goods.

The previous year, Mungindi Rifle Club was awarded $10,684.30 and Moree’s 339 Squadron Australian Air Force Cadets received $16,000. Council said the cadets used their funding for a flight simulator designed to help members practise piloting skills and prepare for flight training.

The Community Enhancement Fund is supported through an annual financial contribution from Moree Solar Farm Pty Ltd, with Council considering eligible applications once each calendar year.

The 2026 round is open to community organisations, sporting groups, schools and kindergartens seeking support for projects, activities, events, functions or sponsorships.

Projects must be based within the Moree Plains Shire or, if delivered elsewhere, primarily benefit Moree Plains Shire residents.

Applicants will need to explain the purpose and expected benefits of their project, its cost and objectives, and how it supports priorities within Council’s Community Strategic Plan.

Council has advised that funding is not guaranteed and successful applicants may not receive the full amount requested.

Applications close at midnight on Sunday, August 2 and can be submitted through Council’s online Community Enhancement Fund application form:
