The Mehi Maruma-li Markets will bring an evening of markets, music and community connection to the SHAE Academy carpark on Thursday, July 16.
Originally planned during NAIDOC Week, the event will now run from 4pm to 7pm as a continued local NAIDOC celebration.
Hosted by Gomeroi Nation Markets 2400, the free family-friendly evening will feature local market stalls, free food, live entertainment and activities focused on healing and culture.
Moree singer-songwriter Kyla-Belle Roberts will perform during the event, with community members encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or folding chair and settle in for a relaxed evening.
The SHAE Academy carpark will be decorated with lights, while free glow sticks will be handed out to people attending.
Organisers say a community balloon release is also planned as a healing gesture.
Guest speakers will discuss healing and trauma, adding a reflective element to an evening otherwise centred around markets, entertainment and spending time together.
Market stalls will operate throughout the event, with organisers providing marquees for registered stallholders. Stallholders are required to bring their own tables and chairs.
The national theme for NAIDOC Week in 2026 is 50 Years of Deadly, marking five decades of NAIDOC Week and recognising the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, organisers, artists and communities who have built and sustained the movement.
Although the rescheduled markets now fall outside the official NAIDOC Week dates of July 5 to 12, organisers continue to describe the event as part of Moree’s local NAIDOC celebrations.
The markets have been promoted as a relaxed evening where families can browse the stalls, listen to live music, share food and take part in activities focused on reflection and healing.
People attending are encouraged to bring their own seating, such as a picnic blanket or folding chair.
The Mehi Maruma-li Markets will be held at the SHAE Academy carpark from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, July 16.
Entry is free.
